Described as ‘a brutal masterpiece’, this film will sit in your consciousness for a long time to come.
It contrasts the parallel lives of the prisoners of Auschwitz on one side of a wall with that of the family of the camp commandant in their idyllic, semi-rural luxury on the other.
The star of this film is Johnnie Burn’s incredible, immersive sound design. He has captured the noises generated by the horrors within the camp with terrifying accuracy. These are amplified in the film by the choking pall of smoke billowing from the furnace chimneys.
